Our Story

La Ficelle in a nutshell

La Ficelle is your local French bakery in Paraparaumu and Raumati Village. We’re all about good food, made fresh every day — from buttery croissants to proper sourdough and classic pâtisserie.

We’ve recently made some positive changes behind the scenes — expanding the team, bringing in new talent, and refining our recipes and systems to lift quality across everything we do. With a great crew and clear focus, we’re proud to be delivering better flavour and excellent service.

Our chefs and awesome front-of-house team welcome you everyday except Tuesdays. Come by and taste what’s new.

Who We Are ?

Story of a rebirth

La Ficelle is your local French bakery with a big heart and serious pastry skills. After the previous team ran the business into the ground under the Louis Patisserie name, owner Sylvain made radical changes — rebuilding the team, reshaping the offer, and turning the business around.

Jean-Louis and Clara, who once ran the iconic Bordeaux Bakery, now help guide the ship. Chefs Maël and Sylvain bring years of international culinary experience straight from France. Xana, who moved to New Zealand with her family from Mozambique, adds flair from her career as a cake decorator.

Lisa, who used to own our Raumati store before moving to France, was part of the transition. Julie is now the friendly face at the Raumati shop and weekend markets — she also runs her own crêpe cart with her husband. Justine, a trained physio from New Caledonia, is our sandwich artist and a key part of the team.

We’ve rebuilt the bakery around quality, freshness, and proper technique — real sourdough, buttery croissants, classic pâtisserie, and seasonal specialties. Everything is made from scratch, every day.
